Been dying to do a portrait of Nina Simone for a LONG time now. It took me a while to get the sketch down, but listening to this and this and especially this on loop helped. I used everything from watercolor and pencil to origami paper (the head wrap and dress) and my thumbs to make her. And when it was done, I framed & donated it to the WMSE Food Slam silent auction, where it found a very fantastic home. Click the photos to see a bit more detail.
